  • Snow Mold is a fungi that attacks turf under snow or in cool, wet weather.

     

    There are two different types of snow mold that affect grasses. Pink snow mold and grey snow mold, and the symptoms for both diseases look very similar.

  • Most home owners in the Treasure Valley apply a preventative bill bug treatment in late May/June, but this application will have zero effect on cranberry girdlers.

  • This particular weed does resemble grass, but it’s actually YellowNutsedge.  Now is the time of year it really starts to grow like crazy.

    Nutsedge is not actually grass at all, it’s actually part of the family of Sedge.  Nutsedge is usually found in areas that receive large amounts of sunlight and water.  


  • The hotter than usual summer weather in the Treasure Valley has caused major stresses to our lawns. These hot temperatures shattered the current record of consecutive days over 100 degrees measured at the Boise Airport. It was also the hottest June ever in Boise.


  • One of the biggest lawn issues homeowners in the Treasure Valley face is BILLBUG DAMAGE.

     

    Billbugs are insects that damage the lawn by feeding on the roots. Infestations of Billbugs may completely kill the lawn if left untreated.  


  • Annually aerating your turf is one of the best things you can do for your lawn.  Our lawns struggle from soil compaction and a thick thatch layer.  An aeration will alleviate compaction issues and allow the soil access to air, water and nutrients.


  • Crabgrass and other annual weeds will be germinating soon in Boise, Meridian, Eagle and surrounding areas. These unsightly weeds grow from seeds in the spring. These seeds can germinate once soil temperatures reach the mid 50’s at a depth of 2-3 inches. 


  • Dandelions are perennial weeds that spread very quickly from hundreds of its seeds and also from the roots. They are found in lawns and shrub beds throughout the Treasure Valley.

     

    If a lawn currently has an existing Dandelion weed in it, then it will only grow and spread more rapidly each day the temperature is over 60 degrees.
