Spiders – There are quite a few species that are found in Idaho. The most common are: Hobo Spiders, Western Black Widow Spiders, Long Legged Spiders, & Banded Garden Spiders. But beware of the Black Widow Spider, it has an hourglass spot on their abdomen, and these spiders are among the most deadly in the world due to poisonous venom they carry. Most spiders can be found garages, basements, barns, sheds and anywhere in your home that has objects stationary for periods of time.
Wasps – Out of all the stinging insects in Idaho, the wasps seem to be the worst. Common types of Wasps include Social Wasps, Solitary Wasps and the Western Yellow Jacket. Social Wasps are found typically in extremely hot areas like your metal BBQ or storage containers sitting in the sun. Yellow Jackets love to swarm around open trash, exposed meats and sweets.
Mosquitoes – These nasty insects will spread diseases very quickly by piercing your skin and injecting their saliva into your bloodstream. Mosquitos spread West Nile Virus and the Zika Virus. They are cold blooded and can be found anywhere the temperature is 80 degrees or over, especially wet and damp areas.
Rodents – Voles and mice will damage yards, trees and plant roots if you let them hang around too long. If your turf continues to die even though you water regularly it could be a vole issue because they dig tunnels they look like dead patches of grass from the surface. If you have a leaning tree on your property this maybe from voles chewing on the roots.
Ants – The most common ants found in the Treasure Valley are Black Carpenter Ants. Like most ants, they'll remain active and annoying all year until they go dormant for winter. They enter your home through the smallest of openings, and they're looking for food or water. They're either on the search for protein and grease based foods, or sweet based foods.
